The treatments last an hour, during which time you will become very relaxed as your energy comes into a state of balance. You simply lie on a treatment couch fully clothed and covered by a blanket to keep you warm. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms as the practitioner’s hands are gently placed in a sequence of Traditional Reiki hand positions, as passed down the lineage. I also work off and around the body, more directly on the subtle energy system. Reiki often feels like tingling, warmth, waves or heat and benefits both giver and receiver.
What Can Reiki Help With?
Reiki works on all levels of being. It supports and stimulates our natural healing abilities by helping us to increase the flow of Life Force, Ki or Chi flowing through the subtle energy system. People report a sense of peace and tranquility which may last for hours or days after the Reiki session. There is often freedom from pain, acute injuries are helped to heal quickly and chronic conditions are helped over time. Reiki can strengthen the immune system, eliminate toxins and resolve or release emotions.
During the First degree you will receive four energy attunements, which open you to receiving more of the life force for your own, and others healing. You may experience a feeling of peace, loving energy, stillness or meditation or see colours, images or memories. The Reiki hand positions are taught for treating self or others. After the First Degree a clearing and shifting start to take place which begins to free the body, mind and emotions from the past. In the Second Degree students are taught how to focus Reiki with the Reiki Symbols and mantras, and how to send distant treatments
I found my way to Reiki via a near death experience in 1989. I received the First Degree in 1991 and found the effects to be transformational. In 1994 I took the Second Degree and went through some profound healing experiences. I became a Reiki Master in 96 and am enjoying teaching and helping people on their journey of healing and opening with Reiki.
Origins of Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal life force. During the last century Mikao Usui (1865-1926) rediscovered and developed this healing system from ancient Buddhist teachings after many years of meditation and study. During an extended period of deep meditation on Mount Kurama lasting 21 days, Dr Usui received the knowledge, spiritual power and gift of healing enabling him to attune others to what he named Reiki. He then founded Usui Reiki Ryōhō Gakkai (Usui’s Spiritual Energy Therapy Method Society) and spent the rest of his life practicing and teaching Reiki.
